Event Reports: TckTckTck Human Countdown in Central Park – 9/20/09

Last week I mentioned meeting someone from Oxfam at GreenDrinks NYC who was here to help promote action on climate change. During the event he gave his “2 minute pitch” for an event in Central Park that would kick off the global movement all calling for an fair, ambitious, and binding climate change agreement. The idea was to create a human sculpture in the form of Earth sitting in the top of an hourglass, then pour down to form the campaign’s name Tck Tck Tck. Vote Earth!

This is a momentous season for humanity with a new round of climate talks in Copenhagen coming up and a forward thinking US administration. I will admit that at first I was skeptical of the impact this campaign could have. I mean: what difference does 1 hour make anyways? But after after seeing Andy Ridley, the executive director of Earth Hour, present a few weeks ago, I realized the real power of this campaign lies in bringing together the entire world for action. Let’s Build a Well Together: Part 1 – Social Media for Social Good

Two weeks ago, I was at Mashable’s Summer of Social Good conference, when all of a sudden it clicked. Surrounded by an inspiring crowd of individuals using social media to create positive change, I saw the tide change. These web 2.0 tools will redefine our relationships and be the means towards improving our world. Using social networking, we can participate in a more sustainable, even restorative society.
